Q. Why
should I
use Concrete Block for My Basement Foundation ?
● Versatility: Masonry block
basements provide the greatest possible versatility to the builder. For
instance, the top plane in a block basement will be level and provide
very little heat loss at the sill plated. Poured concrete foundation
wall, conversely, settle within their forms, causing substantial
potential for heat loss and an uneven finish at the top of the
basement wall.
|
|
|
● Freedom From Forms: Masonry Block
fits automatically. This means that basement size, shape, doors and
windows are not limited to the size of the form as in poured concrete
walls. Therefore, the builder is allowed to quickly and inexpensively
customize basements according to the site and the buyer's needs.
|

|
|
 |
● Insulates Easily: Masonry
Block has far better "R" & "U" factors than poured concrete. That's
a fact! So, used naturally, without insulation, masonry block will
always be warmer. Yet in addition to regular board insulation, the
builder can add additional insulation
in the cores of a masonry block wall for an exceptionally
energy-efficient wall.
|
|
|
● Less Condensation: Masonry
Block walls breathe. They are Dry! Poured concrete walls sweat.
Masonry block also absorb sound. Poured concrete walls reflect noise
back into the home.
● Repairable: Masonry
Block
foundation walls can be fixed easily, quickly and inexpensively. Cracks
in poured concrete walls can be be extremely difficult and costly to
repair. It only takes one bad crack or leak during the back-fill
process or during the home's warranty period to eliminate the builders
profit. And that's a fact!
|

|
|
 |
● Finished Surface: Masonry
block foundation walls are built by craftsmen and produce finished
surfaces. A variety of block surface textures and architectural
features are available, which eliminates the need to patch voids.
● Reinforceable: The cavities
in
concrete block easily accommodate vertical steel reinforcement where
excessive soil pressure occurs.
|
|
● Respects Nature: Masonry
block comes from the earth itself. It respects our environment. It's a
part of us. In fact, masonry block foundations have been used almost
exclusively since the turn of the century. They've stood strong against
all comers - against the heat, the cold, the snow, the floods, the
earthquakes, the kids, the water tables, the termites - and the
competition!!!
